The 2009 Hemphill Lady Hornets Volleyball team, coached by Coach Rosie Miller-Mays, played their third season of volleyball last school year and ended their season in second place with a season record of 20-7 and a district record of 6-3. The Lady Hornets' 2009 team is the first known team in the history of HHS to make the UIL State Playoffs. The Lady Hornets ended their post-season as bi-district finalists, losing to New Waverly in a close 5 game match; Hemphill-2, New Waverly-3. The Lady Hornets moved up from the previous 2008 season 5th place to 2nd place in 2009. Team and All District honors for 2009 include: Elizabeth Benoit, junior captain, 1st team all district; Kassie Nichols, 2nd team all district; Katy Brownlee, 2nd team all district; Kandace Beall, 2nd team all district; Sharee Alston, honorable mention; Allanah Austin, senior captain, 1st team all district; Paige Merchant, honorable mention; Alexa Dutton, 1st team all district; Baylie Butler, Newcomer of the Year; and DeAngela Singleton, senior captain, Outstanding Middle Hitter. Singlteon and Austin were also named to All State Academic for volleyball this season. Congratulations, Lady Hornets!! |
